There are Moorhens and then there are Moorhen chicks. They have hilariously large feet compared to the size of their bodies and look like tiny black pompons on sticks. I’m always surprised to see their jumbly, twiggy nests in open water for all to see. Although they flee very fast at the sight of a heron.

Moorhen chicks have comically huge webbed feet. They need them to swim and to wade through the water.
